Can’t really understand how we’ve got to day 12 but hey ho! We woke up today to see mountains all around our hostel that we didn’t even know existed. And it was sunny!
We had eggs and bacon for breakfast and then left at about 8:45 to see Lake Morraine. We did a climb up to the top of a viewpoint and saw clear beautiful blue water for the first time.
I took about 800 photos of the same thing because we just hadn’t seen it before. We asked a guy to take a photo for us and when he gave back the camera we laughed for ages because you can barely see us even though he seemed so proud of the photo he had taken.

We then decided on doing a short hike around the lake. We’d planned on doing a 5 hour hike that was between Morraine and Eiffel Lake but we’re just not in shape for that nor did we have any food plus the Eiffel Lake didn’t seem that fascinating. So we did a 45 minute hike which took us a whole lot longer because I stopped every 10 seconds to take literally the same photo #noregrets
When we got to the other side of the lake, Ali took one photo and his camera lense just broke. The insides of the lens came apart and he couldn’t zoom in or out on his camera. So that’s annoying.
One camera man down.
Then we did the drive up the ice paths which isn’t icy at all in summer but a really beautiful drive. We stopped in a ton of places, one being Cascade Falls which we saw from the ‘highway‘. This waterfall is described as a ‘shoestring waterfall‘ which I think is pretty cool.

There aren’t many toilets in Banff so I had to pee in a bush which was fun and scary.
Then we went to Emerald Lake which is one place I have been desperate to see. But as we were driving along the ice path, the sky turned grey and it started to rain and the clouds multiplied. The amazing views of mountains that we had seen 10 minutes ago were now blocked by mist. It is really sad that the weather has been pretty terrible almost every day and that we haven’t seen what we came for but we went to Emerald Lake and it was still so beautiful.

Afterwards, we drove back to the hostel. Charged up our phones, cameras, and laptops and then had a really good well-deserved dinner in the hostel’s restaurant which is such good food. (and cheap)
The views at the beginning of the day were so beautiful and we just felt so relaxed not being angry at the weather for a few hours. The forecast is rain for the next few days but we are praying that it won’t be as cloudy so that the sun get squeeze through and give us some awesome views.
